Your Water

Check your water usage, learn where your water comes from, how it is tested and monitored, and how you can help protect this essential resource. Covina Valley Water Company is committed to delivering clean, reliable water while planning for the long-term needs of the community.

Where Your Water Comes From

Covina Valley Water Company draws your water from two main sources: groundwater pumped from the Main San Gabriel Basin, and treated surface water from the San Gabriel River, which may include water imported from northern California through the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) when local supplies need extra support.

Blending these sources helps ensure a reliable water supply, even during periods of high demand or drought. Before reaching your tap, water from every source is tested and monitored to meet strict state and federal standards.

Water Quality Monitoring

Your drinking water is regularly tested to ensure it meets all state and federal safety standards. Covina Valley Water Company follows strict monitoring and reporting requirements to maintain high water quality throughout the system. Water samples are collected and analyzed throughout the year, with results reviewed by regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and safety.

Your water meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards.

You can review detailed testing results and water quality information in our annual Water Quality Report.

Conservation

Water conservation helps protect our shared resources and ensures a reliable supply for the future. By using water efficiently, customers can support long-term sustainability while reducing their overall water use. Small changes in daily water use can make a meaningful difference. Consider the following ways to reduce water use at home and outdoors.

Indoor Tips

  • Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and pipes as soon as possible
  • Install high-efficiency toilets and low-flow showerheads
  • Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving
  • Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
  • Choose water-efficient appliances when replacing old units
  • Shorten shower times to reduce water use
  • Collect and reuse water from rinsing fruits and vegetables for houseplants
  • Keep a pitcher of drinking water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap
  • Thaw frozen food in the refrigerator instead of under running water
  • Check your water bill and meter regularly to help identify hidden leaks

  • Use drip irrigation for plants, trees, and shrubs
  • Replace grass with drought-tolerant or native plants when possible
  • Group plants with similar water needs together
  • Use mulch to retain soil moisture and reduce evaporation

  • Set sprinklers to avoid watering sidewalks, driveways, and streets
