How to Read Your Bill

Understanding your CVWC bill helps you track your usage, catch issues early, and know exactly what you’re paying for. Here’s a breakdown of each section you’ll find on a typical bill.

Your account number identifies your service account. The bill date shows when this bill was generated, and the due date tells you when payment is required.

This shows what you owed on your previous bill, any payments or credits applied since then, new charges for this period, and your current total amount due.

The dates listed indicate the billing period, followed by your meter number, your current and previous meter readings, and your total usage in units for the period.

Important notices from CVWC appear here when applicable, such as rate changes, conservation notices, or service updates.

A line-by-line breakdown of every charge on your bill. This typically includes your base rate (a fixed charge based on meter size) and usage-based charges. It may also include one-time charges such as late fees or returned payment fees, when applicable.

A bar chart comparing your water usage across recent billing periods. This is a useful tool for spotting unusual spikes, which can indicate a leak, or confirming that conservation efforts are working.

Your total amount due and the due date. If payment isn’t received by the due date, a late payment penalty is added, and the higher total shown reflects what you’ll owe if payment arrives after that date.

If mailing a payment, return this portion along with your check. It includes your account number, amount due, and payment address.

Discontinuation of Residential Service for Nonpayment

Covina Valley Water Company recognizes that some shareholders may find themselves behind on their accounts. If you are struggling to make payments, please contact our office to see if you may qualify for a payment plan. In accordance with SB-998, CVWC follows established protocols before discontinuing residential service. Those policies are available in multiple languages.

Understanding Water Usage

Understanding your water usage can help you manage your bill and identify opportunities to conserve. Your water usage is measured in units, with one unit typically equal to 748 gallons of water.

Usage is recorded by your water meter and reflected on your bill for each billing period. Comparing your usage over time can help you track patterns and identify changes in consumption.

Higher water use may result from seasonal changes, outdoor irrigation, or household activities. Monitoring your usage regularly can help you detect leaks or unusual increases.

If you notice a significant increase in your water usage and are unsure why, please contact our office for assistance at (626) 332-8935 or by email at info@covinavalleywater.com.
